Brasstown Bald Visitors Center: This is located on the top of the Brasstown Bald mountain, which is the highest Georgia mountain at 4,784 feet above sea level. The spectacular 360° view on the top of the mountain allows you to see North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee on clear days. There is a gift shop and bookstore in the Brasstown Bald Visitor Center and there are scheduled interpretive programs, presentations and other learning programs to enjoy.
The gift shop and bookstore are open daily during peak season (May to October) from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There are 15 tables in the picnic area at the south end of the visitor parking center. Dogs must be on a leash and not permitted in the visitor center. Day use area/visitor center fee is $3-$10 depending on the type of vehicle. Amicalola State Park: Dawsonville, GA - Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascade (729 feet) in the Southeast with great scenery and hiking trails, so it’s one of Georgia’s most popular state parks. There are pathways to a challenging trail with staircases to view the falling water. Also, there is an eight and a half mile trail from the park to Springer Mountain, which is the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. The state park is very busy during peak leaf season, so you may want to visit during the week.
Fort Mountain State Park: Chatsworth, GA - Situated in the Chattahoochee National Forest close to the Cohutta Wilderness area, this park offers a variety of outdoor activities. Hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders will find some of the most beautiful trails in northern Georgia.
Vogel State Park: Blairsville, GA - One of Georgia’s oldest and most popular state parks, Vogel is located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Tallulah Gorge State Park: One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a free permit to hike down to the gorge floor.
