October Events 2023



October is here and that means chilly afternoons at the winery, beautiful mountain views covered in colorful fall leaves, and lots of amazing Fall Festivals. Learn what this busy month has in store for you:

The Game’s Afoot
October 1st
Location: Blue Ridge Community Theater

The play follows Broadway’s Sherlock Holmes actor ‘William Gillette’ and his costars celebrating Christmas together in his Connecticut Castle. But one of his guests is unfortunately stabbed to death and the Christmas fun quickly comes to an end as things turn dangerous. What will happen to William and the rest of his guests? Find out in Blue Ridge Community Theater’s production of ‘The Game’s Afoot happening Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. The show runs September 14th thru October 1st, call the box office at 706-632-9191 for tickets!

Annual Helen Oktoberfest

Live like you’re in Germany for the day at Helen’s Annual Oktoberfest taking place nightly September 28th thru October 29th in the Festhalle. Helen is known for their German style architecture so there’s no better place to celebrate! AND they’ve been hosting this great event for the past 53 years, making it the longest running Oktoberfest in the United States! On top of beer there will be live music, food, and plenty of fun happening nightly in the Festhalle. Tickets are $10 a person Mon-Thurs and $12 a person Friday-Sunday.

Oktoberfurst Celebration

There will be more German fun at the Waterfront Bar’s 3rd Annual Oktoberfurst Celebration! There will authentic German foods & beers, polka music, a costume contest, door prizes and much more! It’s going to a blast!

Plein Air Exhibit
October 1st-October 15th

After the 2023 Plein Air International Paint Out you can come out to the Art Center to admire the artists beautiful creations. The works will be on display and available for purchase from September 12th-October 15th. You can also expect to see them at the upcoming Fall Arts in the Park festival.

Copptoberfest

Why not celebrate Oktoberfest in Copperhill at Buck Bald Brewing! From now until October 3rd they will have delicious beer, pretzels, and all kinds of fun on their large outdoor patio. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

This wonderful fall festival at the Old Epworth School takes place on October 7th and will be filled with craft vendors, good food, outdoor activities, and more. The event will raise funds for the Appalachian Mountain Regional Campus Council, which helps to maintain the grounds of the Epworth school campus and gives thousands of dollars for college scholarships every year. Entry is free but donations are welcome!

Fly Fishing Film Tour

54th Annual Sorghum Festival

The Sorghum Festival is one of the longest-running festivals in North Georgia. The event kicks off with a parade and then there will be crafters, cloggers, bluegrass music and more! Visit Meeks Park in Blairsville, GA Saturdays & Sundays October 14th-October 22nd to take part!

Blue Ridge Marching Band Festival

If you love the sounds of a marching band this is the event for you! Over 2,000 marching band members are expected to participate so the Fannin County football field will be filled with the sounds of music! The bands will range in size from 40 members to 150+ members.

Blairsville Square Dance

Get to square dancing just like the olden days at Union County Ag Barn for the Blairsville Square Dance! Experts and newbies are welcome to come out and dance! And for those who are new to this don’t worry, a caller will lead you in all the steps. Put your dancing boots on and dance the night away from 8pm-11pm.

There will be a parade of animals starting at the corner of East Main and Church Street at 10am along with a costume contest, pet photos, blessing of the animals, an Ultimate Air Dog Dock Diving contest, and much more! It’s going to be a ‘pawsome’ day!

Gold Rush Day Festival

Celebrate Dahlonega’s 1828 discovery of gold at Gold Rush Days Festival, October 21st and October 22nd at Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce. Take in the 300+ food and art vendors that will be selling their wares all weekend long! This HUGE event is expected to have a crowd of over 200,000 over the weekend and has been voted as one of the Top 20 Events in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.

Haunts & Harvest- An Evening of Appalachian Ghost Stories

Learn more about the area with haunting tales and legends told by local storytellers for Haunts and Harvest at Blue Ridge Community Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Mountain Moonshine Festival & Car Show is back at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville for the 56th year in a row! This huge event has hundreds of vintage cars, live music, great food & drinks, a Moonshine Run, and over 300+ vendors! You can even meet legendary race car drivers! Don’t miss out on one of the largest car shows in the Eastern US October 27th-29th.

Big Foot Boogie- 5K

Run 3.1 miles through 2 states! The 5K takes place in the beautiful twin cities of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN. Food, drinks, and music will be ready for your enjoyment before and after the race. Come on out and get ready to RACE, costumes encouraged!

Fall Festival at Staurolite Barn

Come on down to Mineral Bluff for a FREE Fall Festival at Staurolite Barn on October 28th! There will be a chili and cornbread cookoff, pumpkins for sale, a fall photo booth area, and the big Florida vs. Georgia game on the TV! Come on down from 4pm-7pm for all the fun!

Halloween Safety Zone in McCaysville/Copperhill

Wheel of Fortune

See your favorite game live and in person at the Wheel of Fortune Live at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. Guests will be randomly selected to go on stage where they will spin to win it all! Tickets are $47+ handling.

Enjoy some fall fun at the beautiful Vogel State Park for their Fall Festival on October 28th! This fun filled afternoon at the park includes craft vendors, food trucks, live music, hayrides, a cakewalk, a rubber duck race, ghost stories, and so much more! The fun goes from 10:30am-5pm.
